Calgary Foundation offers support for post-secondary studies through athletic awards for students demonstrating excellence in hockey, sailing and dance.
Online application forms will be available before the end of January.
Most of Calgary Foundation’s awards are for Canadian citizens and permanent residents.
Student award applicants must be enrolled at a post-secondary institution recognized by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) as a “qualified donee.” To determine if your post-secondary institution is a qualified donee, please visit the CRA’s website.
Heather Simpson was a ballet teacher that had a love for dance, teaching and life. She believed in herself, which inspired her students to believe in their dreams and to be strong. Heather had endless energy that was contagious and allowed her to maintain a sense of humor while teaching, thus making the learning process fun. Heather managed to run a balanced dance class by being softhearted and tolerant while keeping discipline. Heather had such a love for all kids that she was able to connect with each student and make them feel like her favorite. She took time with each child and related to them on their level. As a teacher she always went that extra mile for her dancers. Heather led a full life outside of dance as well, which allowed her to teach about life too. She taught kids that there is more to life than just dance, but dance was a great step towards living a full life.
Awarded to a dance teacher that is 18 years and over, who resides in the province of Alberta. The award is to be used to further educate themselves as a dance teacher.
The Calgary Black Chambers Scholarships were established by the Calgary Black Chambers, a non-profit organization, consisting of individuals working to support diversity in and around Calgary, and to foster the growth of Black culture in Calgary. The Calgary Black Chambers serves as mentors and advocates, fostering the growth of great students and future professionals. Its four pillars are: Mentorship, Scholarship, Fellowship and Advocacy.
One award of $1,000, applied directly to tuition.
Applicants must:
- Be a Black Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
- Be currently enrolled in any year of study in an undergraduate degree or diploma program.
- Be attending a Calgary post-secondary institution or have graduated from a Calgary high school and attending a Canadian post-secondary.
- Demonstrate financial need, good academic standing, and present involvement in athletics.
- Provide a brief summary (one-page) of their involvement in sports, some of their achievements and their views on the role of sports in society.
Provide two reference letters, one from a former coach and one from a teacher familiar with their athletic career.
Established to honour the memory of Bradley Hillmo Anderson.
One award valued at approximately $400, applied directly to tuition.
The applicant must be:
- A Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
- Registered in full-time study and have a minimum 2.75 GPA.
- Entering any year of study in their first degree or diploma program.
- Attending one of the following Calgary post-secondary institutions: Alberta University of the Arts, Bow Valley College, Mount Royal University, Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, University of Calgary.
- Financial need may be considered.
- Preference given to applicants with sailing experience.
In memory of Michael Gee, a 15 year old U18 ‘A’ hockey player with NW Calgary Athletic Association. This award is based on hockey and academic performance and open to Calgary residents graduating Grade 12 playing hockey in the Calgary Minor Hockey Association – U18 Boys AA or AAA (major), U18 Girls AA or AAA.
One award, valued at $2,400, applied directly to tuition.
The recipient is eligible to claim the scholarship funds when entering post-secondary education.
Applicant must be:
- Nominated by their coach as most deserving player on the team (only one nomination per coach).
- Calgary resident playing hockey in the Calgary Minor Hockey Association – U18 Boys AA, AAA (major), U18 Girls AA or AAA.
- Graduating Grade 12.
- A student who has achieved a minimum of 82.5% at their educational institution.
